Sophie in Nature

Happy Earth Day!

I did it all by myself!

I was inspired by this "Initiative, Independence, & Responsibility" post at Let's Explore to let Sophie try to dress herself today. She took to the task with great enthusiasm. We had the classic "two legs in one pant leg" situation, the "arm coming out of neck hole" dilemma and the "toe stuck in heel of sock" conundrum. By the end of our experiment, we had a well-dressed (albeit barefoot and with her pants on backwards) girl who proudly exclaimed, "I did it all by myself!"

Go, Canucks, Go!

Sophie is a huge Canucks fan and loves watching hockey with her Dada. We've currently got Game 4 of the Canucks vs St. Louis playing while I type. She talks about hockey quite a lot. A typical conversation looks like this:

Mama: What do the Canucks do?
Sophie: skate
Mama: and they have...
Sophie: pucks
Sophie: and they shoot the puck!
Sophie: and they go get it!

Go get it, Canucks!

Taking up the caffeine habit early

(Getting ready for a nap.)
D: You'll go to sleep, and then you'll wake up, and maybe we'll go outside.
S: And then we could get coffee.
D: Yeah, we could do that.
S: And then we could drink the coffee.
D: Um, yeah, okay.
S: And then Sophie would go on a little tear.

The Balloon Tree

Sophie loves "The Balloon Tree" by Phoebe Gilman and describes the cover picture by saying, "They're going outside to get a balloon".

Once we open the book up, Sophie gets so entranced with the story that she says,
"I'm gonna get right into the book and get a balloon. A green one.
And then I'll come out."

Little comedian

Our silly girl has been developing her comedy routine lately. Hers is a sophisticated style of humour, so don't be surprised if the jokes are too esoteric for you to understand.

Joke #1:
"Mup!"
"Yes, I did say mup."
"Is that a silly thing?"

Joke #2:
We received a parcel the size of a novel in the mail. I asked her what she thought was inside. Sophie's answer:
"Elephant"

Joke #3:
"Bees!" (pause for laughter)
"Bees!" (pause for laughter)
"Bees!" (pause for laughter)
"Bees!"

Joke #4: (along the same lines as Joke #3)
"Boot!" (pause for laughter)
"Boot!" (pause for laughter)
"Boot!" (pause for laughter)
"Boot!"
