Ambidextrous

When I was filling in Sophie's preschool registration forms this week, one question I had to answer was, "Does your child show a preference for using one hand or the other?" As you can see from this photo, we haven't quite determined if she's right-handed (like Dean) or left-handed (like me) yet.

Sophie's first bike

We gave Sophie her first bike for her second birthday. She'd been coveting a run bike (or balance bike) for a couple months, ever since I sat her on one at the bike store. As you can see, run bikes don't have pedals and they're great for teaching kids balance. Sophie's feet easily rest on the ground and she can push herself along and lift her feet off when she's feeling confident.

Since Soph wanted a blue run bike, we picked up a spiffy blue and white Haro Z10 that was on sale at a local bike shop. Here are some photos from April 26th, the day of her first ride. She has improved considerably since then with nearly daily practice!

Her dinosaur helmet is ridiculously huge, but at least she's safe!

In Sophie's library bag

Photo unavailable: I See Baseball (a very basic board book that I couldn't stand but Sophie loved. She memorized the simple text within a day and asked for it to be read to her over and over!)

Mother's Day retrospective

Here are some photos of Sophie on Mother's Day at the ages 6 weeks (2007), 13 months (2008) and 25 months (2009):

I have been pampered by my family today! Dean made a picnic lunch complete with yummy sandwiches, organic strawberries, fair trade chocolate and pink lemonade. We enjoyed our picnic down at Jericho Beach and had fun running around and spinning. I've also got a homemade apple pie (complete with T-Rex on it), a Mother's Day card with Sophie's scribbles all over it, and some quiet time to quilt. Happy Mother's Day to all the mothers I know (especially mine!)!

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery

Sophie is a little monkey, imitating our every word and deed. Lately, I've caught her trying on Dean's bike helmet and my purse. Here's how it went in her words:

"I'm wearing Dada's helmet. I look pretty good."

"I want to hold Mama's purse."

Next thing you know, she'll be doing our taxes!
